Today is Emily Brontë’s 208th birthday. To celebrate, I am revisiting Emerald Fennell’s film adaptation of Emily’s iconic novel Wuthering Heights (released earlier this year). 2023 was deemed by many as “the year of the woman,” with the Barbie movie and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour dominating the cultural scene. On the whole, this year’s Golden Globe Awards (held on Sunday, January 7th) certainly did recognize the significant achievements of women, although the opening monologue included some disappointing jokes at the expense of women… dissing, in particular, the creators of Barbie.… read more.
It’s the third act of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie (2023), and the Kens are embracing their newfound patriarchy, brainwashing the Barbies into being their maids, interrupting Barbie Land’s perfect pink palette with their horse prints and faux minks.
