Oscars 2024: Women Shine Despite Lack of Recognition

The 2024 Oscar Awards were broadcast on Sunday, March 10, and from the jump, the night was not set up to reflect the incredible year that women had had in film. Overall, the wins this year were male-heavy: Notably Oppenheimer took both Best Director and Best Picture (as well as several other Oscars). This morning Anatomy of a Fall – directed and co-written by Justine Triet – received FIVE Oscar nominations in the following categories:

  • Best Motion Picture of the Year
  • Best Achievement in Directing
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
  • Best Original Screenplay
  • Best Achievement in Film Editing

Last May, Justine Triet, won the 2023 Cannes Film Festival’s Palm d’Or and earlier this month Anatomy of a Fall won the 2024 Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Non-English Language).… read more.

NYFF ’19 to Feature Only Six Films by Women

The 57th Annual New York Film Festival will feature 29 films on their main slate – six from female directors, making up 20 percent of the lineup. Running from September 27 through October 13 at Film at Lincoln Center, the festival’s lineup includes films from directors Kelly Reichardt, Agnes Varda, Celine Sciamma, Mati Diop, Justine Triet and Angela Schanelec.read more.
